What does Deco do?
The Deco team provides decorations and signage.
- The decorations serve to make the event look good in a coherent way; we use (among other things) signs, flags and lighting objects. Our goal is to welcome people and make them feel happy to be at the event.
- The signage is meant to look pretty, but in the first place it gives information and helps people find their way.
- The lighting we provide is mostly meant to look pretty, but it will also help you find your way in the dark.
The Deco team does not provide
- Design (except for the projects we create ourselves)
- Functional lighting (except for when we do)
- Printed goods for other teams to use

Print shop Order
On <date TBD> we will place an order at <some print shop, probably Drukwerkdeal> for the following items:
- Fence banners for [Map]
- Location marker stickers for [Map]

- Small entrance markers (2 painted wooden plates besides the entrance path near the road)

Misc
Lessons learned from MCH
- Yes, we really do better when we have a 10x10 tent
- Having a portable speaker with music for the people working in the tent would be nice
- Being accessible and on a main road is not necessarily a good thing. We're not all that public facing.
- Having a large whiteboard right from the start would help a lot.
- Other teams used a Kanban board with post-its.
- Having a bakfiets is great!
- With the number of poles we needed to install, having a ground drill to ourselves would help
- We really want chairs and tables. Sitting on benches without a backrest does not work well for everyone.
- Nuts and drinks are very nice to have. A fridge would actually rock.
- Having a dedicated angel shift coordinator is great and makes everything easier.
- Coordinating angels is a very different skill than long term preparation and planning.
- It's still better to have the gate painted before it arrives, if at all possible.
- If building stuff that lights up and needs to be on video, make sure to avoid interference.
- Basic build up instructions on the wiki are essential. Even a rambling set of considerations is a great way for the angel coordinator to know how to guide angels.
- Target for success: A project can be deployed without supervision by angels
- Angels love the repetitive tasks at tables assembling or painting things. Focus your projects on the difficult bits, have angels/sweat shop sessions do the bulk work.
- Calculate assembly time per unit beforehand and optimize if possible.
- Think about the process beforehand and how efficient it is, keep optimizing when executing.
- Make sure your design lights up in someway to indicate to the angels installing your work so they know they got it right. For example blink red and/or green to show electronics work, network status, etc.
- Check the weather forecast in advance for days on which no work can be safely performed, adjust planning
