A loss of backend connectivity is defined as an event in which the Cash registers running pretixPOS (ECR) cannot communicate with their backend server (pretix/pretix-posbackend) anymore.

Impact

Unlimited products

Sale of products in an unlimited quota - which represent the majority of all items - will not be impacted, as the ECR will not have to actively confirm their sale and availability on the server. Sales should not be impacted.

Limited products

Sale of products in a limited quota will not be possible until the connectivity is reestablished. This should not cause any major inconveniences, as only select items from Merchandising are quota'ed.

Prepaid Vouchers/Giftcards

The sale of prepaid vouchers/giftcards will be impacted as the ECR won't be able to insert the code of the sold card into the database.

Additionally, performing sales of any product will not succeed, should the customer wish to pay for said sale with a prepaid voucher/giftcard.
