Role:POS Operations/Procedures/Internet Connectivity Loss
Loss of Internet Connectivity specifically targets the case where the PIN entry device (PED or EFT) cannot communicate with the servers of the payment acquirer. While the POS/ECR might also not be able to access any services on the internet, this does not cover the issue of the POS/ECR not being able to reach its own backend service.
A loss of internet connectivity should be cause for concern, as the PEDs will not be able to transact online. As such, any transaction requiring online-connectivity (such as Online PIN validation, usage of limited fund cards such as debit or gift cards) might be negatively impacted.
Our terminals have been configured for offline transaction processing (Offline EMV as well as Store and Forward) which allows every terminal to process up to 1000 transactions without talking to the payment acquirer's backend. This should permit for enough time to either reestablish internet connectivity as a whole or provide emergency internet access to the payment terminals to synchronize their accumulated offline payments.
